Thiruvananthapuram is a major tourist hub in India. Kovalam and Varkala are popular beach towns located near the city. Other important beaches include Poovar, Shankumugham Beach, Vizhinjham Beach and Veli Beach. The Padmanabhaswamy Temple is one of the richest temples in the world. Other places of interest include Agasthyamala rain forests, Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kallar, Braemore, Ponmudi hills and Kappil Edava lakes. The city is known for its unique style of architecture involving Kerala Architecture with British and Dravidian influences. Napier museum, Zoo, Kuthira Malika palace, Kilimanoor palace and The Trivandrum Golf Club heritage building are examples for this. The main museums include Kerala Science and Technology Museum, Napier Museum, Kerala Soil Museum and Koyikkal Palace Museum. Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve is listed in UNESCO's World Network of Biosphere Reserves.


Kovalam is a small coastal town in the southern Indian state of Kerala, south of Thiruvananthapuram. At the southern end of Lighthouse Beach is a striped lighthouse with a viewing platform. Palm-backed beaches also include Hawa Beach and Samudra Beach. Heading south, Vizhinjam Juma Masjid mosque overlooks the busy fishing harbor. Inland, Sagarika Marine Research Aquarium displays technology used in pearl production.


Varkala is a town in the south Indian state of Kerala. It's on the Arabian Sea and known for Varkala Beach, backed by palm-covered red cliffs. Just south, Papanasam Beach is believed to have holy waters. On a nearby hill, the ancient Janardanaswamy Temple is a Hindu pilgrimage site dedicated to Vishnu. Farther inland, the Sivagiri Mutt monument memorializes the social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, who is buried here.


Poovar is a tourist town in Neyyattinkara in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala state, South India. This village is almost at the southern tip of Thiruvananthapuram while the next village, Pozhiyoor, marks the end of Kerala. This village beach attracts tourists.


Shankumugham Beach is a beach in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, south India. The beach is on the western side of Thiruvananthapuram and very near to Trivandrum International Airport.


Veli is a tourist village that is popular as a picnic destination in Thiruvananthapuram district. The place features a large garden on the southern banks of Veli Lagoon; a floating bridge that connects this garden to the Veli Beach. It is an ideal destination for a family picnic as there are wide range of attractions such as play areas for children, boat rides in Veli Lake, horse riding option, and a floating restaurant can be found here. Apart from these, there is a a long walkway connecting Aakulam Lake that catches one's attention, there are also some stone and grass sculptures by Kanayi Kunhiraman which add to the landscape of the garden; a collection of birds such as pigeons and swans, and few small ponds with fish and tortoises in them.


Padmanabhaswamy Temple is located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The temple is built in an intricate fusion of the indigenous Kerala style and the Tamil style of architecture associated with the temples located in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu, featuring high walls, and a 16th-century Gopuram


Ponmudi (the Golden Peak) is a hill station in the Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala in India. It is located 55.2 km north-east of Trivandrum City at an altitude of 1100 m. Ponmudi (Varayadumotta) peak is a part of the Western Ghats mountain range that runs parallel to the Arabian Sea


Kerala Science and Technology Museum is an autonomous institution established by Government of Kerala, India, in 1984, as a center for popularisation of science and scientific temper among the general public, especially among the young generation. The institution is in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city, in Kerala.


The Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve was Established in 2001 and includes 3,500.36 km² of which 1828 km² is in Kerala and 1672.36 km² is in Tamil Nadu. Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve became part of World Network of Biosphere Reserves in 2016.
